Rock Pooling in Devon

During September we went to Devon for a weeks holiday, we like to go when all of the school kids have gone back to school,he he!! I planned our first terms Nature Journaling around the book Pagoo which is all about life in a rock pool so that we could follow it up with some real life exploration. I think I love rock pooling as much as the kids.LOL

We stayed in a beautiful place called Torcross there are very little amenities there but it is in a micro climate and is a truly beautiful part of the English coast, there is a freshwater lake on one side and the beach and sea on the other. You can find lots of rock pooling in and around this area as there are many beaches. We spent many hours making a damn out of pebbles between two large shards of granite, caught crabs using bacon as bait and caught loads of shrimp.

Once the damn was built we had to wait until the sea came in to check if it would hold. It held pretty well, but the sea is a powerful force and once the tide was fully in it washed some of it away. The children were delighted to find some of it still standing the next day.
