Grade 3 Fibres Lessons 7 & 8

Fibres Lesson 7: Cotton

Today we learned about cotton. We explored the many textures of cotton, identified it as the most used material in our house and examined it with a magnifying glass. We then compared it to wool, leather and silk. I then read a story about cotton production which I adapted massively the story about cotton from In the Childs World. I decided to adapt it because it was very long and I felt we needed a shorter version for our lesson. After the story I asked Noah to copy the picture from the board into his MLB.  As the story included information on the parts of the cotton plant the image included labels.

My youngest also wanted to draw a picture of cotton but loads of plants, this is her masterpiece. I truly love children's art, its simplicity and colourfulness.

Fibres Lesson 8: Cotton

So today we reviewed how cotton is processed. I also wanted to do some grammar work so I asked him to recall yesterday's information, I then wrote it out minus grammar. He then with help corrected the paragraph before copying into his MLB.
